  • Manage orders with Local Exchange Carriers (LEC) and Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLEC)
  • Determine circuit capacity required for a facility
  • Order PRI circuits from a LEC or CLEC with proper specifications to connect to the phone equipment
  • Order and connect POTS lines to phone systems, alarm systems and other equipment
  • Make channel assignments on SONET ring for customer provided access, if required (see SONET in Network section)
  • Manage and develop upgrades to phone systems




Administer phone systems, including:
  • Add lines, PRI circuits, digital and analog extensions, voice mailboxes and paging zones
  • Route DID calls to extensions or equipment 
  • Configure failover routing over backup wireless or T1 during primary circuit outages 
  • Change names for seat assignments and passwords for voice mailbox security 
  • Configure and script voicemail menus, including night messages, directions to facilities and holiday messages 
  • Configure attendant console connection to phone system, extension directory, special function keys and paging 
  • Add door or gate call boxes and door releases
  • Configure unified messaging, routing voicemail and faxes to email
  • Troubleshoot and resolve phone line quality issues and outages
  • Troubleshoot and resolve phone hardware issues
  • Troubleshoot using tone and trace, continuity testers, telephone test set
  • Order wireless headsets and configure them to work with the phone system

Make physical connections to phone systems:
  • Use structured cabling with patch panels using TIA/EIA-568-B standard for RJ11 and RJ14 connections
  • Use 66-blocks, bridge clips and Amphenol connectors, when required 
  • Extend phone demarcs as required 
  • Pull wiring, punch down patch panels and jacks and make custom patch cables

Configure ADTRAN ATLAS 550 to share a single PRI for analog lines
  • Configure extensions for fax machines and other analog phone applications 
  • Configure ISDN BRI for dialup modem capability 
  • Configure incoming lines for DIOD modems on a fax server
